Glamorgan Sport Park Opens
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson unveiled the University of Glamorgan’s £3.7m state-of-the-art coaching and performance development complex at the Glamorgan Sport Park on 25th November 2010.
The Sport Park complex is the first sports facility in Wales to be rated as BREEAM-Excellent. It is used by students during the daytime and by professional sports clubs and teams in the evening, and has already been used by the Welsh netball and badminton teams, Cardiff City Youth Academy, the Cardiff Blues rugby region, and the Welsh Rugby Union as part of their elite coach education programme. The building is also being used by the visiting Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Fiji rugby teams in preparation for their major international test matches against Wales.

What our students have to say

Stuart Brooks, 25, is the Students’ Union Student Activities and Development Officer and a graduate of Glamorgan’s BSc Hons Sports and Exercise Science.
“As the union officer in charge of sports and activities, I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in the project from an early stage. To see it transform into this centre of excellence has been amazing.
“Facilities of this standard really put Glamorgan on the map. They make us a serious contender for anyone interested in studying sport science, fitness or coaching.
“The feedback from students has been fantastic. As well as the awesome facilities, people are saying how much they like the atmosphere. It’s really chilled out there and the staff are friendly and professional.
“The highlight for the sports students is the state-of-the-art strength and conditioning room. To be able to learn and train with these kind of facilities is unbelievable and will give us a huge advantage.
“Seeing the Australian and South African rugby teams train here recently was the icing on the cake. These guys are used to the best so to hear them say such good things about our facilities was a huge seal of approval.”
Alun Evans, 21, is the captain of Glamorgan’s first XV.
“The new facilities have been a huge boost to us as a team. The strength and conditioning room is the best I have used. The Sport Park is a great coup for Glamorgan. It will be a big plus for current students and those thinking of applying here.”
