Childrens Sports Camps Monday 19th July – Friday 13th August 2010
The Centre for Sport, Health & Exercise provides an excellent programme of Children’s sporting activities throughout the year. The non-residential activities are aimed at children aged between 8-14 years who would like to try a number of activities including climbing, archery, badminton and trampolining.
We are also running an Adventure Sports Camp from Monday 26th July – Friday 6th August. This Camp is available for Children aged 12-16 years and provides an excellent opportunity to meet new people and try some exciting new activities. Activities include mountain biking, rowing, climbing, sailing and many more water based activities. Welcome to the University of Glamorgan!
The sports facilities are open to all staff, students, members of the local community who are over the age of 16.
The facilities and programmes on offer will cater for both the top class performer or simply those wanting to keep fit and healthy.
The Centre for Sport, Health and Exercise is responsible for the management of both the indoor and outdoor sporting facilities as well as organising an extensive recreation programme. The Recreation Programme is divided into five areas; Group Exercise classes, instructional Courses, Intra Mural Competitions, ‘Play Sport’ and Coaching Qualifications.
The 'Group Exercise Classes’, run every week and cater for all abilities. Classes include Aerobics, Simple Step Aerobics, Boxing Fitness, Yoga, Circuit Training, ‘Legs Bums and Tums’ and many more. As many as twenty classes run every week!
‘Instructional Courses’ usually last between two and six weeks and are progressive classes which allow you to learn a new activity or improve on your current standard. Beginners classes in Pole Fitness, Trampolining, Squash, Belly Dancing, Tai Chi, Judo and Pilates are examples of the new activities you could try. You will probably never have a better opportunity to participate than during your time at University.
The Intra Mural leagues are one of the most popular competitions on Campus. The competitions are open to students and staff of all abilities. Most leagues last for 6/8 weeks and you are guaranteed matches every week! All you need to do is get a team together and make sure that you register early.
‘Play Sport’ is an exciting programme which is designed for you just yo turn up and ‘play sport’! there s no membership, no leagues and all you have to do is turn up each week and have fun! The sports include Futsal, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Football and Uni Hockey.
The Centre also organises Coaching qualifications for those who may be interested in coaching a specific sport. We have put together an intensive coaching week at the beginning of the Easter holidays to enable you to take a variety of awards over 6 days.
If you want to play competitive sports the university plays every Wednesday in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS)Competition. Our Basketball team now play in the Premiership Division and have been promoted in the last two years. We have over 26 teams playing regularly in the BUCS competition and have a ‘Focus Sports’ programme to help develop specific sports.
If you intend to use the Centre on a regular basis then it is advisable to join the Membership Scheme which will allow subsidised rates on all facilities and
